Remind Me
someday
On the other side of this season,
remind that I thought it would never end because it’s gone on for so long that it’s become the norm.
The hits have Just. Kept. Coming. for so long
that getting sucker punched by life is the new normal, and my posture is now locked and braced for the next hit.
On the other side of this,
remind me that when it got really bad, I would fall asleep most nights watching documentary series about ambulance crews,
and heavy duty tow trucks in Canada who clear up semi truck wrecks and spills in the snow and ice from the freeways, and anything else I could find about the folks who rush into impossible
and difficult and terrible situations when everyone else was running away,
as evidence of others who work so fucking hard in the face of scarcity
in order to make the world safer and kinder and better than they found it.
But until then, don’t, don’t, don’t,
don’t encourage me with hollow words about hanging in there, or being patient, or grateful,
or suggest that I think about going in a different direction.
The daylight is returning at a rate of a half hour per week now and at a minimum this means longer days and the chance for more natural vitamin d production, and at a maximum it’ll illuminate my way through to the other side.
P.S. I finally visited Edinburgh Castle with a friend who got me in for free because she works for Historic Environment Scotland, and if you’re thinking of visiting…unless you love war history the best part of the visit will be the views. Turns out I had a whole body of work on all the old white guy warmongers just waiting for an outlet, and the running commentary provided a lot of laughs so we had a great time!
P.P.S. In the midst of this shitstorm of the last couple of weeks, I did get one bit of extremely exciting (and also totally terrifying) news that I haven’t fully processed and will tell you about next week. Hint…it may have something to do with the Fringe.

I don't know how you keep on, but I admire it. Also know that what else can you do?
