The birds must be starting to move north again because every morning this week they start chirping between 4 and 5 am with enough force to wake me, but then they either stop or move on by around 5, after I’m fully awake with no promise of finding sleep again before I have to get up and start my day. The sun’s not even up until sometime near 7:30am, so I don’t know why they’re holding a 60 minute choir practice a full three hours before first light. Living in the middle of a city where nature sounds are few, far between, or drown out by the machinery of modern life, it’s hard to be very upset for very long at their sweet tweets. And with a 4am wake-up call, it means I’m getting in bed earlier at night. They also get really loud again for about an hour just after sunset, and it’s been warm enough to crack a window so I’m listening to them sing with the volume up as I type.
